Technology turns warehouse space into a swank master suite and fuses home and business.

Rather than battle the highway traffic after a long day at work, the owner of this converted warehouse can “crash” for the night a 1,500-square-foot, which includes not only a kitchenette, bathroom and huge closet, but ton of technology.
“The space was designed as a ‘crash pad,’” says John Alfano of DSI Entertainment Systems, Los Angeles. “The owner runs his business in the same building, so he wanted a place where he could work and actually live for a few days.”
Incorporated into the swank suite is a media area featuring a Sharp Elite 70-inch LED TV fixed to a brick wall and 5.1 surround-sound arrangement of Revel speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer. A Revel soundbar handles the front three channels; two in-ceiling speakers handle the rear channels.
Traveling to the TV and speakers is wide assortment of entertainment content, including audio and video from DirecTV, AppleTV, Blu-ray and 16 surveillance cameras that watch over the property. The components, which reside in a cabinet underneath the TV (, can be controlled conveniently from the owner’s iPad, a Crestron wireless MTX-3 remote or if he’s lounging in bed, a Crestron V12 touchpanel, which is kept on the nightstand. The iPad and touchpanel can also be used to view the surveillance cameras.
In addition to turning the gear on and off, the iPad and Crestron units also allow the owner to direct music to the speakers of a specific listening zone (there are 3, including the master suite, bathroom and closet), or to play the tune it throughout the entire space. The building’s landscape lights and alarm system can be controlled conveniently from his home away from home, as well.
