Back in May, iriver announced a pricey portable under its Astell&Kern brand. The AK120 Professional High-End Portable MQS Player is currently selling for about $1,300. Now the company is thinking that if you’re going to invest that kind of money in a portable device, you should really have a good pair of headphones to go with it.

For that purpose, Astell&Kern just introduced the AKR01 In-Ear Headphones. The product was designed in conjunction with Final Audio Design and based on that company’s Heaven IV Series. It’s also made to match Astell&Kern’s portable audio players.

The AKR01 has a proprietary balanced armature driver and Balanced Air Movement (BAM) technology, which controls airflow and prevents sound leakage. Other features include stainless steel housing and a flat cable design. Each pair comes with a leather case and three sizes of ear pads in two styles.

“Final Audio Design has been a leader in the In Ear Monitor industry for over 40 years and are known for their exceptional high-end audio products,” said Henry Park, CEO of iRiver. “Astell&Kern is excited to partner with them to produce the new Astell&Kern AKR01 In Ear Monitors. We feel their philosophy on music and high-end audio is similar to ours. These new IEMs will be a perfect fit to our AK100 and AK120 high resolution portable audio players.”

Astell&Kern’s ARK01 In-Ear Monitors are selling now, with an MSRP of $199.99.
